This workshop will engage in ‘Tactile Drawing’, a technique that I developed to recreate processes of describing sensory awareness as an emergent and multi-dimensional experience. Mapping the landscape: the identity of artist-scholars working in institutions and the industry.

Doughty and Fitzpatrick have identified a perceived need to examine the status of the independent artist who has migrated into an educational context and seeks to maintain Practice-as-Research (PaR) activities in both the institution and industry.

The boundaries between artists working in these contexts have blurred over the last decade or so, with professional artists seeking links with institutions through postgraduate study or employment whilst still attempting to seek recognition for their work as an artist beyond academia.

Pelléas material / b.a.n.q. – a poetic product of contemporary research

“Pelléas material” is a dance-research project exploring the French fin de siècle opera “Pelléas et Mélisande” by Claude Debussy (1902). The project addresses constraints of power and cultural hegemony using dance/performance in a contemporary (re)interpretation of the opera.

Using the experience of this recent project, I will discuss the division of tasks and roles and their functionality in artistic research orbiting dance, opera and conceptual performance.
