Cognitive Dance Improvisation, with Ivar Hagendoorn, Oct. 3-5

The basic premise of the workshop is that art and aesthetics are guided by numerous implicit and explicit rules. These rules are embedded in aesthetic preferences, cultural traditions and unconscious behavioural patterns. By making implicit rules explicit one can attain a new degree of freedom: what was unconscious has now become a conscious choice. By systematically exploring a particular rule one can engender a wide range of movements. The rules allow one to create structure in variation and variation in structure. The first two days one will be introduced to a selection of dance improvisation techniques that I have developed over the years. The third and final day one will develop one’s own techniques.
